This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled The Oxbow, Connecticut River Near Northampton designed from a painting by Thomas Cole shows a sharp contrast wherein the left side of the scene looks dangerous with storm clouds overhead, dark skies giving off a feeling of fear as it whips into the tree that is trying to hold its own in the violent wind. Even though it evokes these feelings, there is still beauty noticed in the untamed state that is untouched by man. But when you look at the right side of the scene, the sky is light; the mood is calm and tranquil, and our eyes peruse the meandering shape of the river (the oxbow bend of the Connecticut river), and all is still and quiet. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
