This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Orpheus Leading Eurydice from the Underworld designed from a painting by Jean-Baptiste Corot shows a mythological presentation of Orpheus whose wife has died, so he descends to the underworld to retrieve her with his lyre. He was told not to look upon his wife until he had reached the world of the living, but he simply could not resist looking at her just beforehand and then very sadly she was lost to the underworld for good. There is a heavy sense of sadness in this scene and the colors chosen are muted and soft with shadowy transitions that give one a sense of melancholy. The fact that Orpheus came so close to retrieving his wife and then lost her forever because of a careless action is hard to handle. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
