This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Ellen's Isle, Loch Katrine designed from a painting by Robert S. Duncanson shows a stunningly beautiful landscape painting that was inspired by Sir Walter Scott's poem, "The Lady of the Lake."  The actual area is located in Scotland, and that is where the artist traveled to get a feel for painting this masterpiece and using scenery and ideas from actually visiting Ellen's Isle.  His finished masterpiece turned out to be ideal, serene and in the painting style of Romanticism.  Some people say that the artist incorporated the struggles of enslaved African Americans by painting a scene of them in a boat on a passage to freedom.  The painting, since it was inspired by Ellen's Isle in Scotland, has a touch of the Highlands with its beautiful landscape, and the glorious sun setting in the background makes the scene too irresistible to look at, and it's not something to ignore.  Robert Duncanson is considered to be one of the most important African American artists of the 19th century.  If you appreciate fine landscape painting with a glorious sunset, this is the cross-stitch pattern for you.  Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
