Clare, Oliver

Oliver Clare painted fruit resting on mossy banks, the kind of close, patient still life that suits counted cross stitch.

He was British, born in 1852 and died in 1927, and his name comes up most often for arrangements of apples, plums and raspberries, along with flower pieces such as his chrysanthemums. He is not a name the art histories say much about, which leaves the fruit to speak for him.

Other nineteenth-century painters: George Clare, Eugene Henri Cauchois, and Claude Monet.

If it is the painting itself you love rather than the stitching, Oliver Clare art prints are easy to find.
