This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled The Lament for Icarus designed from a painting by Herbert James Draper shows (according to Greek mythology) Icarus lying dead from an attempt to escape captivity.  His father had fashioned a pair of wings for him to escape, and he flew too close to the sun which burned him to the point of death.  His body is singed and darker in color showing that he has been fatally burned.  In this particular scene, nymphs are surrounding him in grief.  The setting sun on the mountains in the background symbolize the transience of time and the finalization of his death.  Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
