This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled The Pearls of Aphrodite designed from a painting by Herbert James Draper shows Aphrodite (according to Greek mythology the goddess of love) with a mass of auburn tresses draped in pearls from the sea. She is flanked on either side by nymphs who help to adorn her body with pearls and are at her beck and call. The pearls represent luxury and beauty. This work of art created was meant to bring out sensuality, pleasure and beauty with vanity included all of which are certainly evident here. The scene visually uses many strong dramatic colors to bring out the beauty and strength of the waters and the mountains behind the figures, yet soft colors coexist well with the dark more intense colors and were used on the skin. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
