This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Wilderness Idyll designed from a painting by Robert S. Duncanson shows a river waterfall cascading over rocks with large rocks flanking the river. Trees and brush are seen on both sides of the falls while a large mountain in the background is kissed by the sun as it shines its radiance on the mountainside. The skies are fair with blue intensity; the birds are flying overhead, and it's a peaceful setting to be enjoyed by all. Of importance to mention is that the artist was biracial (of European and African descent), and he used his paintings to appeal to the abolitionist movement and to protest against pro-slavery groups. When he included men and women in his paintings, they were of different hues interacting with each other in peace and harmony which indeed is the idyll. This piece is one of the artist's most significant artworks. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
