This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Ancient Pastimes designed from a painting by John William Godward shows a young woman sitting on the pavement playing a game of knucklebones, which happens to be an ancient pastime in her culture. This again is a neoclassical presentation, which is consistent with the style of this artist. There is a statue in the background, including a large pink-flowering tree with two conifers on the right. It's the beautiful coloring of the flowering tree that really captures our attention, more so than the game she is playing. Nevertheless, it is a strikingly beautiful scene worthy of stitching. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
