This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Halcyone designed from a painting by Herbert James Draper shows that according to Greek mythology, Halcyone was in a mood of despair and extreme grief due to the tragic news of her husband's death from a shipwreck and has decided to end her own life by throwing herself into the sea. Just as Halcyone is about to jump into the water, the nymphs nearby who have been observing her behavior take pity on her and turn Halcyone and her husband into Kingfisher birds that are shown flitting overhead. The scene takes place with the ocean pictured with bluish green waters that are somewhat tranquil. Large boulders and rocks are present creating a private cove and with large rock masses in the background which act as a theater or stage of the suicide that was about to take place. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
