This vintage counted cross stitch pattern entitled Hadrian of Rome shows Hadrian, a very handsome young man who was born in Italy, became emperor, and ruled from 117 to 138 AD.  He married Vibia Sabina, grandniece of the ruling emperor Trajan, and is known for building Hadrian’s Wall, which stood as a barrier marking the limit of Britannia.  Soon after he became emperor, he had four senators unlawfully executed because he felt they posed a threat to the security of his reign.  Hadrian was a traditionalist and greatly admired Greek culture and art, which included restoring monuments and temples.  In his later years, he began to suffer from chronic illness and did not have a good marriage, from which their relationship remained childless.  His behavior, when observed by others, was extreme ranging from being gracious and caring to being ruthless and authoritarian.  Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
