This men in counted cross stitch pattern entitled The Men of Sparta by Tracey Marvel Kramer shows a trio of strong handsome Spartan warriors willing to do battle to defend the state and fight to the death. They are raised to be warriors their entire life. The three stages of a Spartan’s man’s life are as follows: (1) Plebe, (2) Warrior and (3) Citizen. From the budding young age of 7, the young boy must leave his parents to go live in an agoge for intense military training. When he turns 20, he is considered a warrior and still lives away from home with ongoing training and fighting as a warrior for the next 10 years. When he turns 30, he becomes a full citizen, is expected to leave the agoge and marry and produce children. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
