This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled The Oak of Flagey designed from a painting by Gustave Courbet shows a massive oak tree that takes center stage on the canvas with branches and leaves overflowing from edge to edge of the canvas. With its sturdy gnarly trunk and dense branches and leaves, it is quite apparent that it was built to last! The artist often took on or identified with the persona of his subjects, and it is felt that this was a self-portrait and an example of his character. It took a lot of brush strokes to create this feeling of density in the tree, and it shows. It's a work of art that would look great when transformed to cross stitch canvas and is certainly worth the stitch. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
