This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Ariadne Abandoned by Theseus, designed from a painting by Angelica Kauffmann, shows, according to Greek mythology, Ariadne abandoned on the Island of Naxos after her lover Theseus had escaped from the ravages of a Minotaur with Ariadne's help.  She lies helpless and pitiful, weeping on a makeshift divan, terribly upset with her lover's behavior, as her actions to free him from danger, including her love for him, apparently meant nothing to him.  She is dressed in a filmy gown of ecru as she lies on a divan draped in a blanket of carmine that dominates the scene in color and beauty.  She is sheltered by an overhang of rocks as she awaits her own fate; yet she is having a difficult time dealing with the abandonment.  Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
