This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Pygmalion and Galatea designed from a painting by Jean-Leon Gerome shows the sculpture of a woman's body coming to life in the artist's arms. The artist, due to becoming disillusioned with women of his time, sought to create the ideal perfect woman, Galatea. As he sculpted her body, he took a break and went to a temple, praying to the Greek goddess Aphrodite to bring his creation to life; his wish was granted. Needless to say, the artist had become quite smitten with his creation and had fallen hopelessly in love with her. When Galatea became human, the artist married her and had two children with her, living a happy life. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
