This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled The Beloved designed from a painting by Dante Gabriel Rossetti shows a radiant bride with red hair pictured with her attendants including an African child posing as a page who is holding a vase of roses. The bride's features were made to contrast greatly with those of her attendees. Note the bride has a fair skin tone and red hair and the artist is lauding her European features in comparison to the attendees who have darker skin tones and darker hair colors. The bride's veil is being pulled back to accentuate her features. Although this is the artist's stance on standards of beauty, I don't necessarily agree with it because there have been countless women of darker hues with darker hair who have been considered to be of exceptional beauty like Helen Williams, a famous black model. In any case, the scene is worthy of stitching. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.
