This flower counted cross stitch pattern entitled King Protea shows a large exotic flower that has petals that open like a king's crown. The Protea is a native of South Africa and is very popular there, but is considered to be rare in other locations. Although it is considered to be a flower of great beauty and its nectar is very sweet, the nectar is very poisonous to humans, dogs and cats and would have to be handled with great care. Nevertheless, you don't have to buy a protea to enjoy it's beauty. Simply stitch it and have it forever! Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.
