This Irish counted cross stitch pattern entitled Leprechauns Hiding in the Forest shows four leprechauns enjoying each other’s company while hiding out in the forest.  They are shy creatures and are known as tricksters who only live in the Emerald Isle.  In Gaelic, the word “leprechaun” means “shoemaker” which is their profession in that they only make shoes for the fairies that live in the forest with them.  Leprechauns have been spotted in fields and woodland areas.  They once were mighty warriors, but an evil magician banished them to live in the woods underground, and when they emerged, they emerged not as warriors, but as leprechauns.  According to Irish mythology, they live for 300 years, and it is said that the older they get, the more tricks they like to play.  They spend their whole lives collecting gold coins and storing them in a black pot.  Irish folklore wouldn’t be complete without them.  Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.
