This fine art counted cross-stitch pattern entitled Amalie von Schintling, was designed from a painting by Joseph Karl Stieler. Amalie von Schintling was a Bavarian beauty born in Munich in 1812, the daughter of an officer. King Ludwig I of Bavaria commissioned court painter Joseph Karl Stieler to paint her portrait in 1831 for his famous Gallery of Beauties at Nymphenburg Palace. Tragically, shortly after the portrait was finished and before her planned marriage, she passed away at age nineteen. This portrait shows a graceful noblewoman with tightly coiled ringlets and a jeweled headband, wrapped in a rich red cloak and ornamental shawl. She has a presence of classical grace, and you can just imagine the gentle scent of sweet lavender drifting on a quiet morning. Every delicate shadow captures the serene poise of soft light across her gentle posture, making this noble portrait, no doubt, a treasure to stitch. Our patterns use only full cross stitches. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
