This fine art counted cross-stitch pattern entitled Auguste Hilber Zweite designed from a painting by Joseph Karl Stieler shows a charming young woman with coiled curls adorned in vibrant hair ribbons, turning to smile over her shoulder in a ruffled white gown.  Auguste Hilber (born Auguste Strobl) was a Munich beauty whose portrait was commissioned by King Ludwig I of Bavaria for his famous Gallery of Beauties (Schönheitengalerie) at Nymphenburg Palace. The original portrait painted by Joseph Karl Stieler in 1827 showed her neck as unusually long, leading King Ludwig to request a second portrait. This artwork, often referred to as "Auguste Hilber Zweite" (the second version), depicts Auguste after her marriage to forester Anton Hilber, presenting her in a modified pose that satisfied the king's preferences.  Our patterns use only full cross stitches. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
