This fine art counted cross-stitch pattern entitled Beethoven was designed from a painting by Joseph Karl Stieler. Ludwig van Beethoven was a seminal German composer and pianist born in 1770 whose works bridged the Classical and Romantic eras in Western music. Painted by Joseph Karl Stieler in 1820 at the request of his patrons, this famous portrait depicts him composing his masterwork, the Missa Solemnis. Despite suffering from progressive hearing loss that rendered him completely deaf later in life, he created some of the most influential classical compositions in history before he died in 1827. The portrait shows the iconic composer in a high-collared dark coat and red scarf holding a music manuscript pencil in hand against a lush woodland backdrop. As someone who appreciates iconic portraiture like myself, I find the rich scent of old paper and earthy forest moss drifting on a cool morning breeze simply breathtaking! Our patterns use only full cross stitches. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
