Caroline, Countess of Holnstein was born Baroness Caroline von Spiering in 1815. Known for her spirited independence, she moved in Bavarian high society after marrying Count Carl Theodor von Holnstein at sixteen. King Ludwig I of Bavaria commissioned court painter Joseph Karl Stieler to portray her in 1834 for his famous Gallery of Beauties at Nymphenburg Palace. This portrait shows an elegant young noblewoman with braided hair wearing a pleated white gown under a dark fur-trimmed cloak. As someone who appreciates refined beauty like myself, just imagine the gentle scent of sweet rosewater and soft silk drifting on a light morning breeze. Our patterns use only full cross stitches.
