Cauchois, Eugene Henri

Eugene Henri Cauchois spent his career on flowers, and that steady attention to blossoms in baskets and bouquets on tabletops is what makes his work sit so well in counted cross stitch.

He was a French painter, born in 1850 and died in 1911. Lilacs and hollyhocks, roses on a dressing table, hellebore and violets gathered in wicker - the still life was his subject and he returned to it for decades. His training came from two very different directions: Alexandre Cabanel, the academic figure painter, and Ernest Quost, a flower specialist.

If it is the painting itself you love rather than the stitching, Eugene Henri Cauchois art prints are easy to find.
