Leonardo Cocorante is a painter whose work has outlasted almost everything known about him, which makes charting it for counted cross stitch a small act of keeping him around.
He is not a name the art histories say much about. There are no reliable dates to give, no confirmed account of where he trained or how long he worked, and what little circulates tends to repeat itself without adding anything. The paintings themselves are the record. Some artists come with biographies thick enough to fill a book, and others arrive with a signature and very little else; Cocorante belongs firmly in the second group.
