Czachorski, Wladyslaw

Wladyslaw Czachorski painted flowers with the seriousness most painters of his day saved for portraits, and that attention to detail is what carries his work so well into counted cross stitch.

He was a Polish painter, born in 1850 and died in 1911, working in the Academic style at a time when that training meant long hours spent getting a surface exactly right. Poland was part of the Russian Empire for the whole of his life, and Czachorski belongs to the generation of Polish artists who built careers within that arrangement. His floral pictures are the ones most often reproduced, among them a canvas of flowers from 1903 that still turns up as a print more than a century later.

Other nineteenth-century painters: Louise Abbema, Gyorgy Vastagh, and Ludwig Knaus.

If it is the painting itself you love rather than the stitching, Wladyslaw Czachorski art prints are easy to find.
