This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled A Water Baby designed from a painting by Herbert James Draper shows a water nymph who has opened a large clam shell and finds a baby with dark curly hair fast asleep inside the shell. The shell is positioned securely on a large flat rock so as not to be disturbed by any gale-force winds. The nymph is partially nude and is standing partially submerged (knee-deep) in the water. Her dark hair is damp from swimming in the ocean, and she is wearing a scanty seaweed skirt around her waist. The ocean in the background seems calm and peaceful in different shades of azure. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors to produce a more realistic effect.
