This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled, The Stormy Crossing, designed from a painting by Alfred Edward Emslie, shows a grandfatherly-type figure comforting two children (probably siblings) as they brave the storm on the open seas. Little is known about the relationship between the man to the children. The height of the waves and rough water can be seen in the background as it nears just over the edge of the boat. The man seems to be unmoved by the storm because he is used to the rough waters, but the children are not, and he is trying to calm the fear seen in their eyes. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. We only use an abundance of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
