This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled, Zenobia Captive by Sir John Edward Poynter, represents one of the artist's most famous works.  It shows an absolutely stunning portrait of a woman abundantly adorned with finery from the top of her head to her silver teardrop earrings down to her serpentine bracelets and other drapery.  She is Zenobia, Queen of Palmyra.  She was a fierce warrior queen who is said to have conquered Syria, Egypt and parts of Asia Minor after her husband (the king's) death.  She was eventually captured by the Romans and given a pension and a villa where she was permitted to live out her life.  Some say she was ruthless, but there is no doubt that her likeness exudes power and strength and this woman had the confidence to wield such power.  No blended colors are used in our patterns.  We only use an abundance of solid colors as it produces a more realistic effect.  Only full cross stitches are used in our designs.
