This fine art counted cross-stitch pattern entitled Helene Sedlmayr, was designed from a painting by Joseph Karl Stieler. Helene Sedlmayr was a German beauty born in 1813. The daughter of a shoemaker, she came to Munich as a young woman and worked as a maid in a toy shop. She caught the attention of King Ludwig I of Bavaria when delivering toys to the royal palace for his children. Considered the epitome of Munich beauty, her portrait was commissioned by the king in 1830 for his Gallery of Beauties at Nymphenburg Palace. In 1834, she married the king's valet, Hermes Miller, and lived in Munich until she died in 1898. This portrait shows a beautiful young woman in traditional Bavarian dress with a silver headpiece, pink neckerchief, and blue laced bodice, looking gently upward. Our patterns use only full cross stitches. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
