This fine art counted cross stitch pattern entitled Sandy Hook Lighthouse designed from a painting by Edward Moran shows a towering white lighthouse standing resolute against a gathering storm. At the same time, a humble cottage and a small flock of chickens occupy the grassy shore. In this piece, the artist wanted to emphasize the stark contrast between the sturdy, navigational beacon and the unpredictable, sweeping power of the Atlantic coast. The visual palette is a sophisticated blend of stormy greys and slate blues in the sky, grounded by the earthy greens of the dunes and the brilliant, clean white of the lighthouse tower. This pattern is for maritime and history lovers like myself who appreciate the rugged beauty of the Eastern seaboard and the detailed, atmospheric realism of 19th-century marine art. The scene captures the coast just before a gale, where the air is thick with salt spray and the anticipation of the coming tide.  Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
