This fine art counted cross-stitch pattern entitled Orphan designed from a painting by James Tissot shows a woman clad in mourning black standing beside a young child among tall garden reeds and glowing golden autumn leaves. The woman appears to be dressed in a somber black dress, and as noted, the young girl is also dressed in black, which could be a state of mourning for them both, as her nearest relatives have perished, and sadly there is no family member left to care for the girl.  She is sucking on her thumb and clinging to the only person who has acknowledged her existence after this terrible plight.  You can practically smell the subtle scent of damp earth and crisp autumn leaves drifting on a cool breeze.  Our patterns use only full cross stitches. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
