Your pattern includes the following: Visual picture of finished piece, wash and care instructions, handy tips for working the pattern, instruction sheet detailing color of fabric, sizes, and a complete color listing including number of skeins to complete the project.
To get to the basics, here are some special tips when using the pattern:
Fabric: After choosing which finished size and stitch count you want to use, we recommend you purchase your fabric 3 to 4 inches larger than the finished size indicated. You can achieve this by doing the following: For instance, if you want to stitch something in 18 count, look at the Pattern Floss Information sheet that comes with your pattern and look at the finished size for 18 count. If for instance the finished size for your 18 count selection is 10-1/2w X 12-1/4h, simply add 6.5 inches to the width and 6.5 inches to the height. Convert the fractions to decimals and using your calculator it would be 10.5 + 6.5 = 17 inches for width and 12.25 + 6.5 =18.75 for height. Now convert the decimals back to fractions and the measurement of your cloth when you purchase it should be 17w X 18-3/4h. We recommend that you zig-zag stitch the perimeter of your fabric with a sewing machine to keep it from unraveling while you work.
Pattern: To find your starting point on your fabric, place your ruler horizontally at the top of your fabric and measure 3 inches over from the left edge and mark your fabric lightly with a small penciled dot. Then from that dot, measure 3 inches down and that will be your starting point on your fabric. Although centering marks are included in the pattern, we suggest that you start stitching on the first page, upper left-hand corner. To avoid getting a finished project that shows lines and an unsightly checkerboard effect, do NOT stitch each 10 x 10 square one at a time. Instead, you can stitch horizontally all neighboring stitches in that color beyond the 10 x 10 square, and if you come to that same color on the next page, continue in that same color across the page boundary. Go where the color takes you. This method will help to alleviate lines in your work. The same holds true if you like to stitch vertically.
Frames: As far as frames go, you can use whatever method you want, but I prefer the scroll frame to keep the fabric taught and for ease-ability when stitching.
Our patterns are loaded with an abundance of vibrant colors, so we advise using some type of floss organization, whether it be floss cards or floss sticks. I personally use floss bobbins that I organize in a project box.

Wash and Care Instructions:
Make sure when handling your needlework that your hands are clean and free of oils that may collect on them from day to day tasks. Always stitch in good lighting (I use an OTT-Lite® for all of my projects). Cut your floss to 18 inches or slightly less to prevent fraying. Using a vertical motion when pulling the needle in and out of the canvas or fabric (instead of a diagonal direction) will also prevent fraying. When preparing to thread your needle, try to resist placing or holding the needle in your mouth as this will eventually tarnish the needle and create unsightly stains on your fabric. When not working on your needlework, always store it in a bag to prevent dust and dirt from collecting on the canvas or fabric.
You will need to hand-wash your needlework separately from other laundry items, as dry-cleaning is not recommended, and we take no responsibility for any damage that might occur when you wash your project. Do not use bleach or other harsh cleaners. Use a mild dish detergent in lukewarm water. It is not uncommon for the floss colors to bleed a little. Rinse in clear water several times until water is clear. Next, roll your work in between two clean towels. Do not wring. Roll out piece and let it dry flat. When dry, place the finished piece between two clean towels and iron on a warm setting with pattern face down. Now your work of art is ready for framing!
