William Taylor drew for postcards, the small pictures people actually sent to each other, and that plain everyday charm is what carries them into counted cross stitch.
He was a British artist who worked for Bamforth & Co, the firm whose cards traveled through the mail by the million. Beyond that, he is not a name the art histories say much about. No dates, no biography, nothing tidy to hand over. What survives is the work itself, which is probably how a postcard artist would have wanted it anyway: seen by plenty of people, most of whom never thought to ask who made it.
