This fine art counted cross-stitch pattern entitled The Mermaid of Zennor designed from a painting by John Reinhard Weguelin shows a mythical siren resting at the edge of shallow water while gazing up at an enchanted youth on stone steps. You can almost catch the cool scent of coastal mist and damp stone rising in the hush of dusk. The Cornish folk legend of the Mermaid of Zennor tells of Morveren, a siren enchanted by the sweet singing of a local chorister named Mathew Trewhella at the church of St. Senara. She would secretly attend services disguised in fine gowns before eventually revealing herself to Mathew, who followed her down to the ocean depths, never to return. This pattern is full of intricate shifts in color and lighting nuances that almost make it look mosaic in nature.  The beauty of the scene almost looks as if it were done in luminescence watercolors, and is not a project for the weary.  It is an extreme task, but when the stitching is finished, you will marvel at the masterpiece you have created!  Our patterns use only full cross stitches. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
