This fine art counted cross stitch pattern, entitled Isabella and the Pot of Basil, designed from a painting by William Holman Hunt, shows Isabella caressing the pot that contains the head of her slain lover, Lorenzo. Isabella, a noblewoman, had fallen in love with Lorenzo, who was their house servant. But since Isabella's brothers already had someone picked out for her to marry, who was a wealthy nobleman that had an olive tree grove, the brothers became incensed when they found out Isabella was instead in love with Lorenzo; so they murdered him and buried his body. Isabella, in hopeless grief, went to his gravesite and exhumed Lorenzo's head, which she placed in an urn. She is shown caressing that urn. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns. No blended colors are used. Instead, we use a variety of solid colors to achieve a more realistic effect.
