The artist wanted to portray the fleeting bloom of youth and the ethereal, luminous quality of skin against a moody, shadowed background. Most of the colors used are a sophisticated blend of dusty mauves and cool lavenders, offset by the warm, porcelain glow of the subject's complexion and the deep, forest-green hues of the receding garden. The setting of this scene is reminiscent of a garden at twilight, where the air is thick with the scent of hidden blossoms. Only full cross stitches are used in our patterns.
