Frederic Edwin Church painted landscapes so large and so carefully observed that New Yorkers once queued and paid to see a single canvas, and that sense of occasion carries into counted cross stitch.
Church was American, born in 1826 and died in 1900, and he grew up in Hartford, Connecticut before becoming one of the central figures of the Hudson River school. Mountains, waterfalls and long panoramic views were his subjects, worked with a realist's attention to detail and a strong interest in dramatic light. The naturalist Alexander von Humboldt shaped how he looked at the world, and for a stretch of his life he was about as famous as an American painter could be.
Church studied under Thomas Cole and later influenced Martin Johnson Heade. Robert S Duncanson and George Inness were fellow Hudson River school landscape painters.
If it is the painting itself you love rather than the stitching, Frederic Edwin Church art prints are easy to find.
