This New England counted cross stitch pattern entitled The Gillette Castle shows a castle made entirely of stone framed by large trees.  The Gillette Castle was built between 1914 and 1919 and sat on 184 acres of land at the top of a set of hills known as the Seven Sisters. The castle belonged to William Gillette who was the designer and original owner. Mr. Gillette resided in the castle for many years and was the American actor who played the character Sherlock Holmes on stage. He died without heirs to leave to castle to, so the State of Connecticut acquired the property and renamed it The Gillette Castle State Park.
