Nikolai Aleksandrovich Yarosehnko is one of those painters whose pictures have outlasted the record of his life, and that is part of what makes him such a rewarding artist to work from in counted cross stitch.
He is not a name the art histories say much about. The dates, the training, the company he kept — most of it has slipped out of easy reach, and what survives in any real sense is the painting. That is not the worst way to meet an artist. The work is left to speak for itself, with no biography standing in front of it.
